Thought Control [Demo]

Hi folks,

This is my first submission to Weekly Beats! And also my first proper attempt at an EDM style track. At best, it's an amateurish attempt so I would appreciate any feedback I can get on this. But I also hope you enjoy listening to this!

Cheers,

First EDM track or not, it’s super evident you know what you’re doing. It reminds me a bit of some classic tunes like Messiah - Temple of Dreams and on the non-EDM side almost some KMFDM.

FX use is great, helps with tension a ton. Love the sound selection overall.

Holy crap, what a way to kick off your weekly beats and your EDM adventures! Super duper cool sounds. I'm super envious, whenever I try to make longer songs they end up quite repetitive. You've managed to dodge that super well here, great job!
Anyways, welcome to the fun!!! Looking forward to listening to more of your stuff smile

Thank you so much for your feedback! It is super encouraging for an amateur like me to have other people beyond my family and friends listen to my stuff and give me feedback :-D

I am not familiar with those artists and songs you mentioned so I am going to check them out for sure. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment. Cheers!

Thank you! I find some sections here repetitive too and wish I had done more with this. I just improved the mix this morning a bit further as I thought it lacked a bit of air in the high and mids and also cleaned up a bit of the muddiness. But I can't update the track here so that'll go to my Sound Cloud.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and feedback. I am also going to be checking out the tracks here and there's some insane amount of talent and music being pushed here every week!

Yo welcome to weeklybeats! Yeah, this is a great way to jump into it, wow. I really like the driving beat and bass on this and how it really cuts through everything. You've got a lot of movement on the synth parts and nice work on the vocal samples to keep it all fresh throughout. Yeah, congrats on a great song!

Welcome, hope you can stay around for a while. It's clear you got a good grasp on the genre.

Hell yeah

Ahh! Premature comment. This is an absolute banger! Love it, instant favorite.

Pretty damn dope for a first attempt!  The arrangement is awesome, the track feels fresh through out.  Great use of stereo field effects to add movement.  The breakdown at 03:50 is really great.  I think if I was mixing it, I might have made different choices with how some of the vocal sample layers are EQ'ed, but I think the choices you made are totally appropriate. The only like "critical" feedback I could pull out is that it might benefit from a "room reverb" send so that all the various layers sound like they are in the same space.  In particular the strings that come in around 1:40, sound like pretty wet samples, and they don't really sound like they are in the same space as most of the rest of the layers.  A global reverb send might help to pull all that together a little... but for real, that's me picking nits, this is a DOPE track.  Great energy management through out, the transitions are awesome, and sound design on all the synth voices is really great.  This is awesome, it's hard to believe this is your first attempt at something in the genre.
